Natürlich, warum sollte es dieses Mal anders sein? Warum sollte gerade dieses Gerne sich komplett anders anfühlen und verhalten als die Bisherigen? i have seen things rise and fall. Richtig, es gibt vordergründig keine Erklärungen dafür. Trotzdem habe ich gehofft - und ich hoffe immer noch - dass sich diese Musikrichtung nicht auf der Schwelle zwischen Nischen-Dasein und Mainstream befindet. Ich versuche die Signale, die dafür sprechen nicht wahrzunehmen und bewusst zu ignorieren, versuche mir einzureden, dass das alles Zufälle sein mögen doch eigentlich weiss ich dass es unweigerlich dazu kommen wird, ja dazu kommen muss. ich wehre mich mit meinen vier Gliedmaßen gegen meine Gedanken, die SELLOUT schreien wollen. !SELLOUT! und ich drücke mir zwanghaft die Hand vor den Mund, denn zu egoistisch sind diese Gedanken. Ich will das alles so bleibt. Keine Radio-shows, keine Interviews in grossen Print-Magazinen, keine Fernsehberichte, keine TV-Spots mit hintergründiger musikalischer Untermalung, keine Jünglinge, die mir das als den neusten Scheiß anpreisen, keine Klingeltöne zum Runterladen, kein Timbaland mit halfstep-beats. Ich will das nicht! ich habe das zu oft erlebt und zu sehr ging es mir an die Nieren. Da steckt Herzblut drin, hört ihr? Und purer Egoismus, flüstere ich ganz leise hinterher…

Und immer wieder bin ich zutiefst erschrocken über meine eigene Naivität und fühle mich wie damals mit 16 als ich wirklich dachte, dass es solche Dinge wie Subkultur gäbe. Und wieder höre ich das “why haven’t you learned anything?”-Sample von Mala.

Der Irrglaube, dass es eben doch Dinge gibt, die nicht mit Kot beschmiert werden können.

Entschuldigen Sie, Frau Polly Jean Harvey. Ich ertrage Ihre neue Platte einfach nicht. Nein, nicht weil Sie schlecht wäre oder aber ich ihre Stimme nicht mag. Im Gegenteil, aber wenn ich Sie höre dann tropfen unweigerlich große Emotionen aus meinen Augen. Ich ertrage die Melancholie einfach nicht. Vielleicht in 2-3 Monaten wieder wenn ich weiss ob man Kreide wirklich fressen kann…

superlativ-inflation-galore passiert ja mal ganz schnell bei plattenbesprechungen. meisterwerk hier, meilenstein dort. meistens eher unfähigkeit des autors die richtigen worte zu finden. doch wie formulieren, wenn man wirklich das gefühl hat dass sich etwas bedeutendes in den gehörgang geschlichen hat. mitmachen und in der beutungslosigkeit verschwinden? no way! intensitätsbestimmung anhand der zeitlichen dauer abstehender körperbehaarung? das wäre zu subjektiv! wahrnehmung des grundrauschens in der welt ausserhalb des eigenen dunstquaders? zu demokratisch! no easy solution. mal das sich-selbst zu wort kommen lassen:

sagt das unbekannte wesen über sich selbst. den mund ganz schön voll genommen! mit vollem munde spricht man bekanntlich nicht und schon gar nicht über sich selbst. blödsinn, anerzogenes spießbürgertum. so gewinnt man nie einen poetry-slam-blumentopf.

mir schwirren kurze sätze wie diese durch den kopf:

diese platte sortiert dubstep neu. bewegt sich am rande der diffusen genregrenze. mal teil des ganzen mal definiert sie etwas neues. descending sort genre bass. no need for scrollbars…right on top! sortieralgo-rhytmus: unknown. destination: very well-known.

doch der drang diese platte in den himmel zu heben, sie als äusserst bedeutend für das genre zu bezeichnen ist zu stark als dass sich abneigung und persönliches empfinden nivellieren könnten. also nochmal ohne meta: diese platte ist bedeutend! nothing more, nothing less. musik beschreiben können andere (besser).

Recently i stumbled upon this thread on dubstepforum.com where some of the dubstep-heads described their emotions and feelings about dubstep. Talking about music is very difficult and i think it is even more difficult than talking about love. I can give no account why this music which we call dubstep attracts music lovers, real enthusiasts so much but maybe that is because all the people fell in love with something. We fell in love with a music style which is so much more than this simple word dubstep is capable to describe. I can not testify this but i think what we all have in common is some kind of musical background, some kind of experience in different music genres. Dubstep is a conglomerate of Dub, Reggae, Dancehall, Techno, Minimal, DnB, Hip-Hop, Ska, Rock, Folk, Jazz, …and so much more. Details play an important role, texture-changes, not even noticeable, reduced, skeletonised. Breathtaking. Yeah sure it’s the bass aswell, a great physical experience if done right on proper sound systems, but even stronger is the menacingly feeling caused by it. Pure raw energy giving me the creeps. gloomy, dusky and sometimes - i have to admit - a little bit too masculine maybe? It is a logical progression and all the scene supporters i know so far keep it real. Honest music loving and passionate people organizing parties and raves (yeah right!), sharing their mixes, writing, givings props and respect, pushing things forward! Big up. You know who you are! Let’s keep this scene fresh and kicking as long as possible. This is an affair of the heart! Words cannot describe…
